Two dead, two others hurt in bloody Monday across St Michael

Police were investigating a string of violent incidents across St Michael on Monday – including a ride-by shooting –  that left two men dead and at least two others nursing gunshot wounds in a bloody 24-hour span.

The first incident occurred in the early hours of the morning in Black Rock.

Just after 2.25 am, Black Rock police received a report from a female caller of Bridge Gap, Black Rock, stating that a man had been stabbed at her home. Officers found the lifeless body of Ralph Forde, 88, inside the house.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a dispute between a couple escalated, resulting in the male receiving multiple stab wounds.

Police have since taken a person of interest into custody who is assisting with investigations into the matter.

Hours later, another violent incident unfolded in Cave Hill.

Shortly before 11 a.m., a man died after being shot at Hill View Close.

Police spokesman Acting Inspector Ryan Brathwaite said police received reports around 10:40 a.m. of a shooting in the area.

“Police units responded to the area. On arrival, preliminary investigations showed that a male was sitting on a bucket outside a residence at Hill View Close when two armed occupants of a brown motor car disembarked and discharged a number of shots, injuring that male in the process,” Insp Brathwaite told reporters at the scene.

The injured man was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a private vehicle but later died from his injuries.

Later in the day, around 3.30 p.m., gunfire erupted in Deacons Road as gunmen on motorcycles carried out two separate attacks in the Deacons Road gangland area known as the Red Sea and the Deacons Farm public housing area.

Barbados TODAY understands that at least two people were injured and remain in serious condition.

One woman described to reporters a frightening ordeal as shots rang out near her home: “I was at home and I heard the shots. My daughter said they got gunshots outside. I just come up to when they get there and heard one of my neighbours get shot in he hand, and he was just there sitting down liming he does every day.”

She added that another person was also shot nearby.

“Then I hear somebody else get shoot further up… but they started shotting from down there, the other block, then they shot [the neighbour]. I don’t know if the people was running [and] that is why he got shoot.”

Later in the day, police released a statement on the incident: “Initial investigations have shown that two men rode through the area on a motorcycle and discharged a number of gunshots, injuring two males – one at Farm Road and the other at Deacons Road. Both men were transported by private motorcars to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where they are currently receiving medical attention. Investigations are continuing.”

The police are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident or has information that may assist to contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-8477, Police Emergency at 211, or the Black Rock Police Station at 417-7500 or 417-7501.
