Two remanded to Dodds after guilty verdict

Two St James men have been remanded into custody after a jury determined that they were guilty of committing drug-related offences, including the importation of over 300 pounds of cannabis, 13 years ago.

Following Justice Anthony Blackman’s summation in the No. 3A Supreme Court, Carlos Miguel Doughlin of Endeavour No. 2, and David Victor Ricardo Springer of Apes Hill, were convicted of having, importing and trafficking 139.16 kilogrammes of the controlled substance into the island on July 13, 2012.

It took the jury of eight women and one man less than an hour to reach the unanimous decision.

Principal State Counsel Rudolph Burnett and State Counsel Treann Knight prosecuted the matter, while the accused were represented by attorneys Marlon Gordon and Jeremy Bowen.

The convicted men will return to court on September 24.
