Update: St Bernard’s Primary to remain open

Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George has given the St Bernard’s Primary School the all-clear to remain open, following a recent outbreak of a skin condition among students.

While further investigations are ongoing, he said the Ministry of Health suspects the illness affecting the school is hand, foot and mouth disease.

At a meeting this morning with officials from the ministries of health and education, some teachers raised health concerns during a meeting this morning expressed concerns about their health. However, Dr George said he is satisfied the school is fit for purpose.

Chief Education Officer Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw confirmed that classes will continue today and for the rest of the week.

The school was closed last Thursday and Friday to allow for industrial cleaning.
