The United States Embassy Bridgetown is refuting claims of issuing a Level 4 Travel Advisory against Barbados.
The fake circular, bearing the image use on the embassy’s social media platforms, made the rounds on Friday morning. However, it was not on the official State Department website where these notices are posted.
The current advisory remains at Level One.
The notice, which also had today’s date June 27, 2025, stated the advisory was being issued because of matters related to crime and healthcare in the country.
“A recent surge in armed robberies, assaults, and home invasions has been reported, particularly in urban centers and tourist areas. Criminal groups have become more organized and aggressive in targeting foreigners,” adding, “Barbados is experiencing limited availability of emergency medical services due to ongoing labor actions”.
Later, the embassy issued this statement on their social media pages.
“The U.S. Embassy reminds travelers that the Travel Advisory for Barbados remains at Level One: Exercise Normal Precautions, as noted at travel.state.gov. Official updates on Embassy and consular matters are communicated through platforms like the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), a free service for U.S. citizens to register their trips abroad for emergency contact.
