Use of communication devices prohibited at polling stations

Voters in the St. James North constituency are reminded that all communication devices, including smartphones, smartwatches, and smart pens, are prohibited within polling stations on polling day, Wednesday, May 21.

According to Supervisor of Elections, Sherland Turton, these devices, along with other personal effects, must be left at a designated desk before voters proceed to the polling booth. Voters are required to retrieve their items upon exiting, after they have marked their ballot and completed the voting process.

Ms. Turton also stated that on the day of the by-election, the polling booth will be positioned in a way that each voter enters with his or her back to the Presiding Officer. This arrangement allows the Presiding Officer to observe and ensure that no concealed electronic communication devices are being used.

She assured the public that the privacy and secrecy of the vote will be maintained throughout the process. (BGIS)
