A 22-year-old American tourist was ordered to pay $500 in compensation after assaulting a security officer who confiscated her marijuana at a party.
Breana Sha-Lay Grier, of Hempstead, New York, pleaded guilty to assaulting Julia Brathwaite and possessing 13.37 grammes of cannabis on July 6. She appeared before Magistrate Manila Renee in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court.
Grier, who is staying at Rendezvous Hill, Christ Church, was searched by security personnel at the entrance to the Eden Sunrise event at Bellevue Plantation on Sunday. A clear plastic bag containing cannabis was found and it was handed over to Brathwaite, the supervising security officer, who informed Grier that she could not have it.
However, the visitor kept on saying, “I need back my stuff to take to the house”, and began pushing Brathwaite repeatedly, even though she was warned to stop.
Other officers were called in and as they were escorting Grier to the entrance, she turned around, spat at Brathwaite, acted aggressively and used abusive language.
In court, Grier apologised for her actions.
Magistrate Renee ordered her to pay $500 compensation immediately or serve two days in prison. She was reprimanded and discharged on the cannabis charge.
