West Terrace Primary celebrates sporting, academic excellence at graduation

West Terrace Primary School’s Class of 2025 has capped a year of sporting dominance and academic achievement, with students and staff hailed for their outstanding results at a jubilant graduation ceremony on Thursday under the theme, Rising Stars: Shining with Excellence.

Principal Charmaine Jones praised the students for an exceptional year of achievement, both in the classroom and on the sports field.

She reported: “This year at NAPSAC, we placed first in the boys and in the girls at the zonal meet. In the finals of the championship, the boys placed 1st and the girls 2nd. This is an incredible achievement that reflects the strength and dedication of our sports programme.”

Cricket, she noted, was a major highlight of the school’s sporting calendar.

“I actually wrote this speech before we won yesterday,” Jones admitted with a smile, referring to the school winning the National Sports Council BICO Primary Schools’ Football title.

“It was an amazing game. The Tigers dominated possession with 85 per cent of the ball. It came down to a nail-biting finish, but in the 35th minute, Alex Jones-Ifill found the back of the net to seal the win. Great job, Tigers!”

Praising the cricket team, she added: “Our boys showcased exceptional skill, teamwork, and discipline, capturing championship titles in both the Six for Six cricket competition and the prestigious Herman Griffith Primary Schools Cricket Competition. These accomplishments have further cemented our school’s reputation as a force to be reckoned with in primary schools.”

Jones highlighted how sport continues to play a vital role in the holistic development of students, nurturing qualities such as discipline, teamwork, and school pride.

“Our achievements are a reflection not only of our talented students but also of the dedication of our coaches and the support of the entire school community,” she said.

Turning to academics, the principal praised the students’ accomplishments in English and Mathematics.

She said: “This year’s performance in English and Mathematics reflects both impressive achievement and important opportunities for growth. In English, students scored as high as 99 per cent, while in Mathematics we celebrated two perfect scores of 100. These results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and teachers.”

Of the 92 graduating students, 80 received grades A, B, or C in their essay writing—a success rate of 85 per cent. “These results reflect effective instruction, student effort and a growing confidence in writing expression,” she said.

Jones also acknowledged that some students faced challenges. “We don’t view this as a setback but as a call to continue supporting, encouraging, and innovating. Every score represents a journey—and we are proud of how far our students have come.”
