Barbadian international footballer Mario Williams has signed a six-month professional contract with AC Port of Spain and will compete in the TT Premier League in Trinidad and Tobago.
Williams, who has made more than 50 appearances for the national team, has played a key role in Weymouth Wales’ success recently as the side successfully defended their league and cup titles this season. The defender was also part of the squad that reached the CFU Club Shield final, losing 3-2 and in the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup, as they went out in the group phase on goal difference.
Alphonso Lewis, General Manager of Weymouth Wales, spoke glowingly of the 33-year-old defender, saying, “Mario has been a tremendous servant to Weymouth Wales and to Barbadian football as a whole. We are extremely proud to see him take his next step in his professional journey. His discipline, leadership and experience will undoubtedly help him make a positive impact at AC Port of Spain.”
Williams previously had two spells overseas, joining Antiguian side Parham FC in 2018 and A-League Men’s side Macarthur FC in 2022. (JC)
