Kickstart Rush missed the opportunity to go three points clear at the top, when the Barbados Football Association’s Premier League Competition continued at the Wildey Technical Centre on Tuesday.
Kickstart Rush came into the game against 2025 Division One runners up Bagatelle, alongside Paradise and Ellerton on 13 points at the top of the table, and would have been favoured to win.
However, it was Bagatelle who scored first from the penalty spot almost on the stroke of half time. Kickstart Rush were punished for a handball, with Bagatelle’s Torian Joseph then clinically converting the spot kick to give his side the lead.
Bagatelle held on until the 84th minute, before their quest for the full three points was dashed. A lightning quick counter attack down the left-hand side by Kickstart Rush left several Bagatelle defenders stranded, as Nathan Mccollin grabbed a late equaliser to move Kickstart one point clear at the top on 14.
Bagatelle will look back at the match and wonder what may have been, after three of their players were sent off in the final ten minutes of the game.
Kickstart head coach Renaldo Gilkes told Barbados TODAY he considers the result as two points lost. “But kudos to Bagatelle, who came and competed. We could have definitely pushed ourselves a bit more to get the desired result, but we were glad to get a point to remain unbeaten. We look forward to this weekend’s game against Weymouth Wales, which will be a real test of our abilities and our character, but hopefully we can get a positive result.”
In the nightcap encounter, a goal from Jadon Macollin in the fifth minute and Shabarri Lynch in the 56th saw UWI Blackbirds to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Eyre’s Meatshop Pride of Gall Hill.
