Youth MCs urged to turn stage skills into enterprise

As the third cohort of the Youth MCs Programme graduated recently, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Charles Griffith, offered a bold call to action: “Turn your skills into business”.

He encouraged graduates to explore the possibility of forming partnerships, registering businesses, and actively seeking hosting opportunities across government and private sector events.

“I recently heard of someone charging $3 500 for two days of emceeing. Why shouldn’t that be you? You’ve been trained, you’ve proven yourselves, and now it’s time to capitalise on what you’ve gained,” Minister Griffith told the graduates.

He pointed participants to the Ministry’s Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme (YES), as a pathway to support their journey into self-employment.

“If you work in pairs, choose a name, register your business, and begin marketing to ministries like Health [and Wellness], or People Empowerment [and Elder Affairs], we will back you. This is real.”

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that training leads to tangible outcomes, noting: “We’re not just here to train you; we want to see you succeed.”

He also thanked parents and supporters for helping the youngsters reach the finish line. Minister Griffith also confirmed that the fourth cohort would begin shortly, and he extended an open invitation for past graduates to return for further upskilling.

“This is now one of our signature programmes,” the minister said. “It’s not just about emceeing; it’s about preparation for life, leadership, and opportunities that stretch far beyond the stage.” (BGIS)
