Two young men from St Michael appeared in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court, charged with dishonestly obtaining gasoline, food, and car parts by falsely representing that a debit card was lawfully in their possession.
Jakobi Deshawn Roberts,18, of Thompson Road, Wavell Avenue, Black Rock, and mechanic Dario Denico Lamontagne, 20, of Long Gap, Spooners Hill, appeared before Magistrate Manila Renee on Friday, jointly charged with five offences.
These include dishonestly obtaining on July 23, $64.20 in food items from A1 Supermarkets and on July 24, $50 worth of gasoline from Holborn Gas Station, car parts valued at $100 from Parts Plus Incorporated and gasoline valued at $40.01 and $50 from Enhanced Business Solutions by falsely representing that they were in lawful possession of a visa card in the name of Elvis Gibson and being authorised to use the said debit card. Roberts confessed to the charges, while Lamontagne pleaded not guilty.
Lamontagne, who is represented by attorney Harry Husbands, is also separately charged with two matters in the District ‘E’ jurisdiction, including that on July 23, he dishonestly obtained from Zak’s Auto Spares car parts valued at $85 by falsely representing that he was in lawful possession of a visa card in the name of Elvis Gibson and that he was authorised to use it.
He is also accused that on July 24, he dishonestly obtained from Percy King car parts valued at $40 with the same debit card.
No plea was taken in relation to these matters, which were transferred to Holetown to be heard on August 19.
After no objection was raised to their application, both men were released on $5 000 bail with surety for the Bridgetown matters, while Lamontagne was also placed on $2 500 bail for those in Holetown.
Magistrate Renee ordered a pre-sentence report for Roberts, who has no previous convictions, and ordered him to return on August 22 for facts to be read in.
Lamotagne’s District ‘A’ matters were adjourned until January 6.
