Police appeal for end to violence after fatal Father’s Day shooting

Police are urging Barbadians to help end the recent wave of violent crime following the fatal shooting of a small business operator at the Constitution River Terminal in Bridgetown early Sunday morning.

The victim, who operated a stall at the terminal, was killed at around 7:29 a.m. on Father’s Day.

According to preliminary reports, two men approached the area on a motorcycle. One disembarked and opened fire, striking the victim before fleeing the scene. The man was pronounced dead at the location by a doctor.

Police Communications and Public Affairs Officer, Acting Inspector Ryan Brathwaite, said the area was cordoned off and a forensic team processed the crime scene.

Law enforcement is appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477, Police Emergency at 211, or the Central Police Station at 430-7630/7676.

Meantime, Acting Inspector Brathwaite urged fathers across the nation to have honest conversations with their children about the consequences of violence.

“We are appealing to our children. The senseless loss of life is not what we want in our country. This is a productive life lost within our community, and we cannot afford to continue on this path,” he said.

“We want to appeal to our community, to all right-thinking Barbadians; let us have this conversation.” (BT)
