Last month, Richarre Rossini Steve Angelo Martin made a successful plea to a Magistrates’ Court to grant him personal bail to find a surety. He never returned, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Thursday, his pleas in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court fell on deaf ears as Magistrate Alison Burke remanded him to Dodds Prison until next year.
The 47-year-old of no fixed place of abode had previously appeared in court on November 17 and pleaded guilty to three charges.
These include that he had apparatus fit and intended for use in connection with cannabis, that he resisted police constable Terron Greenidge in the execution of his duties and to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Greenidge. The offences all occurred on November 14.
Martin told the court at that time that he was the lone caretaker of an elderly relative and asked to be released on personal bail as there was no one in the court to act as his surety.
Magistrate Burke released him on $1 000 bail and ordered him to return to November 19, but Martin never did.
Hauled before the Bridgetown court, he stated that his father had a stroke “the same day I left court, and he had two more strokes since then.”
“That was on November 19th. This is December 18th, a clear month, and you did not think it fit to say something to the court? To make your way here and say something in a month? I gave you personal bail to bring back a surety, and you didn’t.”
Martin, who has 17 previous convictions, replied, “I apologise ma’am, and I am asking that you give me just one more chance because I have a lot on my plate.”
“No sir, you will be remanded,” Burke stated, placing him in the custody of the penal institution until January 16, 2026.
