West Indies vice captain Chinelle Henry is a major doubt for Saturday evening’s opening match against New Zealand at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, and could miss the match.
She went down with an injury after she attempted to take a catch on Wednesday in the warmup against Australia at the Sophia Ground in Cardiff, Wales.
She was taken from on a stretcher and was received for treatment. CWI promised an update on Wednesday and when contacted by NationNews offered one today that she is “day-to-day”
Captain Hayley Matthews was more open. She said on Friday “She (Henry) is a leader in the team, also one of our opening bowlers, and I think a crucial batter at Number 5 or 6 as well. So definitely would be a massive blow to us as a group. But I guess if it is that she was injured and not able to play, we would have to figure out a way to move on and still be able to hopefully win some matches.”
The match on Saturday evening against New Zealand will be played at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton. It will be played under floodlights starting at 6:30pm (1:30pm Barbados Time).
It will be a rematch of the semifinal at the last tournament when the White Ferns edged out the Windies. (PS)
