Thousands of Barbadians rushed to download the new BiMPay app following its launch, prompting temporary delays in the registration process for some users.
The Central Bank of Barbados said more than 11,000 downloads were recorded within minutes of the platform going live, resulting in issues with the delivery of registration emails needed to complete setup of the BiMPay e-wallet.
According to the Bank, the delays are affecting a number of users with Gmail email addresses, while customers using other email providers have continued to register successfully.
The Central Bank said it is working with its technical partners to resolve the issue and restore normal service as quickly as possible.
Officials stressed that the problem is limited to the e-wallet registration process and does not affect the BiMPay payment rail itself, which remains operational and available for processing transactions.
The Bank thanked Barbadians for the strong response to the new platform and apologised. (Central Bank of Barbados)
