The Barbados Football Association Division One title race has been thrown wide open after second-placed Parish Land stunned leaders Pro Shottas 2-0 on Wednesday, closing the gap at the top to just three points.
The crucial victory at Inch Marlow lifted Parish Land to 34 points, just behind Pro Shottas on 37. Significantly, Parish Land also hold a game in hand, giving them a golden opportunity to overtake the leaders as the battle for the championship and promotion to next season’s Premier League intensifies.
Club president Kemar Ward described the result as a critical win under exceptional circumstances.
“It was a very good result for us because the game before we had an altercation and about five of our players had to miss this game.
“That meant we had to come out with some extra fight, but we had a plan and the plan worked,” Ward explained.
According to Ward, that tactic involved keeping their opponents on the back foot for as much as possible, to limit their chances.
He also believes that despite an extremely tight title race, Parish Land has what it takes to clinch the title.
Notre Dame are within striking distance in third position on 33 points, following a 4-1 victory over Fitts Village, with Empire fourth on 32 points, after being held to a 1-1 draw by Technique.
The remaining games saw Potential Ballers getting past Barbados Soccer Academy 4-2, Notre Dame defeating Fitts Village 4-1 and Silver Sands playing out a 1-1 draw against White Hall.
