The Barbados Meteorological Services has issued both a Flash Flood Watch and a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Barbados as a tropical wave continues to affect the island.
Forecasters said the system is producing intermittent moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms, with saturated conditions increasing the risk of flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Between 15 and 30 millimetres of rainfall were recorded overnight, with a further 20 to 40 millimetres possible throughout the day.
The severe thunderstorm watch was issued due to the likelihood of continued lightning activity, which could lead to power outages if utility infrastructure is struck. Residents are also reminded that lightning can be life-threatening.
The public is urged to monitor updates from the Barbados Meteorological Services, the Department of Emergency Management and the Government Information Service, and to exercise caution throughout the day.
Both watches remain in effect until 6 p.m. today, unless updated or terminated earlier. (BMS)
