Transport Authority welcomes new board of directors

A new board of directors is now in place at the Transport Authority, chaired by retired Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Works, Mark Cummins. The 12-member board was issued their instruments of appointment on June 26, earlier this year.

At their third board meeting, held recently in the conference room of the Ministry of Transport and Works, Goddard Building, Minister of Transport and Works and Senior Minister coordinating Infrastructure, Kirk Humphrey and Minister of State in the Ministry, Dr. Romel Springer were introduced to the board and discussed various matters.

Board Chairman Cummins, stated the mandate of the new board is 4-fold:

  • To bring order back to the roads of Barbados
  • To reduce traffic congestion
  • To provide safe and reliable service to the public transportation sector and
  • To manage the on-street competition by Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) for passengers.

The board members are Deputy Chairman Rommel Sargeant and members Clyde Blackman, Erskine Cumberbatch, Janelle King, Wendy Knight-Hunte, Adrian Bayley, Permanent Secretary of MTW or representative, Barbados Police Service Representative, Transport Board Representative, a representative from the Barbados Workers Union and a representative of the Association of Public Transport Operators. The Director of the Transport Authority Ruth Holder also sits on the board.

Cummins is also chairman of the new board of directors of the Transport Board. (PR/MTW)
