Strong ticket sales are being reported for the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League matches at Kensington Oval, with Barbados hosting several games, including the playoffs and final.
CPL Chief Marketing Officer Christine Charles told Barbados TODAY the tournament is generating significant buzz among spectators.“I think Barbadians are really invested in this year and really excited. I think it’s because the playoffs and the finals will be here, so it’s double the cricket,” Charles said.
Kensington Oval is also the host venue for the Women’s Caribbean Premier League, with the Tridents being the three time defending champions.
“The women have been receiving good support on the ground as well and I’d like everyone to support the women and watch them play, because trust me, it’s going to be a fight and they need your support.”
While not disclosing a dollar value, Charles also believes the CPL will provide a significant economic boost to the island.
“Because of the WCPL and CPL, we are increasing the number of jobs that we have out here for the locals, as well as filling up hotel rooms and increasing the tourism numbers.
“We know that it’s a quiet period right now just after Crop Over, so we’re encouraging people traveling regionally as well as internationally, to come down to Barbados to experience it all, trust me it’s a beautiful island,” she added.
The CPL final is scheduled for September 20, with organisers also urging fans to grab their tickets for the Live and Louder mega concert, scheduled for September 19 at Botanical Gardens.
“Every day we have people coming out purchasing cricket tickets, and we wanted to just add more to that and introduce the Live and Louder mega concert, so people can experience that biggest party vibe and biggest party atmosphere.”
According to Charles, the concert will feature a star studded line-up, with tickets on sale at the ticket booth outside Kensington Oval.
“Headlined by Movado himself, there’ll also be acts such as Estelle, Mr
Vegas, and Chris Martin, but trust me, the list goes on and on. We’re calling that the CPL mega weekend and it’s all about the energy, all about the vibes.
“The Republic Bank CPL is known for being the greatest party in sport, so we’re trying to bring that to persons who like music, persons who like the energy, and we’re encouraging everyone to come out on September 19 to be a part of the amazing experience.” (KH)
