Nexora FC topped a 12-team field to emerge victorious in the Empire Sports Club’s six-a-side football showdown on Tuesday.
After a goalless draw in the final, they defeated Easy 1-0 on penalties at Bank Hall.
The top two teams received their prizes on Thursday during a brief presentation ceremony at Massy Distribution.
Assistant Secretary at the club, Patrina Brathwaite said the event formed a part of its 112th anniversary celebrations.
“So for the football night rather than doing the usual, which is the younger players playing the older ones, we came up with a six-a-side competition,” she said.
“Luckily Rude Boy came on board and provided the prize money for the winners and we look forward to doing another tournament in the future.”
Brathwaite also took the opportunity to encourage more persons to become members of the popular club.
“I was a member of Empire Club from the time I was nine or so. I played hockey and football and I think it’s one of the best clubs in Barbados.
“It’s the home of champions and we have a lot of cricketers that came to the club and eventually represented West Indies too,” Brathwaite said.
Rude Boy Brand Manager, Stephen Bennett said they were delighted to partner with the club to stage the football event.
“When we get avenues like this to really take part in football and what’s going on in the community, Rude Boy jumps at the opportunity. I just want to salute Katrina Pixie Brathwaite because she is one person that has consistently been putting her hand to assist in sports.
“These sorts of initiatives are things that we look forward to at Rude Boy because we like to play a role in the community…. We want to push and promote anything positive,” Bennett said.
