The Portvale Sugar Factory has resumed grinding operations following a brief shutdown caused by a mechanical fault.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Barbados Energy and Sugar Company (BESCO), which said the interruption occurred after a mill malfunction, prompting immediate work by its engineering team.
Engineers reportedly worked around the clock to complete repairs and restore the facility to full operational capacity.
BESCO said sugar production for the 2026 crop has been progressing well despite the temporary disruption.
The company thanked staff, partners and the wider community for their support and said it remains focused on the successful completion of the current production campaign.
