Joshua Burke and Chelsea Tuach starred during the third installment of the Barbados Surfing Association’s Surfer of the Year Series.
Competing at Drill Hall Beach, the third event delivered some of the most compelling surfing of the season thus far.
In the Open Men’s division, Joshua made it count in emphatic fashion after finishing runner-up to his brother Jacob in the first event.
He turned the tables in the final with a notable performance — posting a 17.66 total that included a spectacular 9.33 ride that had onlookers buzzing.
Jacob Burke was not without his moments, finishing second with a
14.17 total, while the final was rounded out by Bruce Mackie in third and 14-year-old rising star Trent Corbin in fourth.
In the Open Women’s division, Tuach surfed with authority from the start of the final.
Her 12.56 total was built on sharp, incisive surfing and capped a statement performance that highlighted her class. Amy Godson surfed to a strong second, closely followed by her twin sister Hayley Godson in third and Chelsea Roett in fourth.
In the Open Longboard Division, Jacob Burke claimed the win with a
dominant 13.00 total, while Noah Campbell was second, Tristan Brits third and John Mulligan fourth.
Tommaso Layson was the top Under-18 boy, while Amy Godson won the girls’ equivalent. Among the Under-16 Boys, Christian Stoute emerged victorious, with Kian Brits topping the Under-14 age group.
Avery-Jai Watson was the top novice, while Simon Coles clinched the Grand Masters Over-40s division.
